    Jaipur "the Pink City" and various excursions to Nahargarh and Jaigarh forts, - Study Community Development Projects

     

  • Day 4-7
    Onward travel to Punjab and visits to:
    • Chandigarh - Study Sustainable Urban Development.
    • Ludhiana - Study Housing and Poverty issues and work of an NGO plus visit to secondary school.
    • Overnight stay in a Punjabi Village - Study Agricultural Issues.
    • Ranjit Sagar Dam - Study sustainable water issues.
    • Visit Amritsar and the Golden Temple.

     

  • Day 8-9
    Travel to Agra to see the Taj Mahal and then depart Dehli

     

 

Study Tours

Study tours are centred on the 3 Northern states of Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and the Indian Punjab each with its own distinctive study themes. Start in Rajasthan to see the desert landscape and how the peoples have adapted to life in this harsh waterless environment. Then we visit the mountainous scenery of the Himalayas and the remote villages and peoples of this upland area. Finally there is the Punjab with its green fertile plains sitting alongside sprawling urban and industrial centres.

 

Highlights:

  • Rajasthan Highlights: Pink City of Jaipur, desert Cities of Bikaner and Jaisalmer, and a visit to the Indian NGO’s—Barefoot College and Tarun Bharat Sangh.
  • Punjab Highlights: Amritsar and the Golden Temple, the industrial city of Ludhiana and the rural village of Sahauli, Chandigarh and the world famous Rock Garden.
  • Himachal Pradesh Highlights: Shimla, Dharamsala, Mcleodganj and the Norbulingka Institute of Tibetan Culture.
